I see a fair bit of this John Weitz label while thrifting. So far mainly on business wardrobe staples like the sports coat, tie, and shirts pictured above. Nothing too thrilling, but what I find are classic pieces with a stylish edge and slimmer vintage tailoring—think actual Mad Men, the brand of everyday office gents in the 1960s. So who/what was John Weitz? Besides being among the first menswear designers to lend his name to the licensing of products, he was a novelist, historian, WWII secret agent, racecar driver, yachtsman, and father of two Hollywood directors. I confess all I know I learned from googling his obits in the Times and the Guardian here www.guardian.co.uk/news/2002/oct/12/guardianobituaries.veronicahorwell.
